You learn something new each day

Today I learned that some bakeries have no respect for the humble Hot Cross Bun.

I saw a sign outside a bakery in Mooroolbark advertising HCBs with - wait for it - chocolate chips baked inside.

I have a great liking for HCBs but to do something like this is unheard of as far as I am concerned. Where wil it all end :))

Hot and humid and really yuk for the past week so have not walked.

Hot time in the Suburbs today

According to the Weather Channel at the moment it is 33.5c where I live - its too hot to do the gardening I planned so I've spent a lot of the day once again clearing out some cupboards. Thats one thing about a hot summer - I do tend to move on a lot of stuff not used for a while. One way or another it goes from the house.

Got out really early this morning for a walk - 7.30am and already it was quite warm so just did 30 mins/3 kms and was glad to get home and cool off. Supposedly its going to be hot for the rest of the week and also over the weekend so I don't think I'll do any more long ones but aim for the gym and some classes instead.

Must tell you tho' last Monday morning I outdid myself and just kept on going round the local streets ending up with 6kms in the end. Didn't increase my pace just toodled along and got home at the end of an hour.

Was surprised I didn't feel puffed as thats farther than I would normally go so was quite chuffed with myself - even more so when I did a Pump class in the early evening and stayed at the higher weights I'd gone to the week previous. Will take in another class later this aftenoon so will keep at those weights and see how I go.

The scales at the Leisure Centre have gone on the blink so I'm back to mine at home - which weigh a little lower so it means I'll have to remember that when I see the figures I have to add another kilo to the total :((

It hasn't gone down a lot but my clothes are feeling a bit looser and my body feels lighter which is good as theres nothing worse than feeling thick around the middle. This time I am really going to make it happen as I am now able to see a shape around my waist area and hips and not look as tho I am chunky and straight up and down.

Not much happened this week, seems to have been the usual routine commitments .

One thing that did happen last Saturday as I was signing in for a class at the Leisure Centre who was standing next to me but Alex from The Biggest Loser. Did a double take as he had lost oodles and really looked a lot smaller than the night before when I'd seen him trying to run round the Sydney Tower, said Hello but didn't ask how long he'd stayed on the show.

Of course on Monday night we found out he was voted off that first week so he would have been home for possibly a couple of months. Hadn't seen him around as I had been very lax and not used the actual gym all summer - we have good jogging trails close to there as well so he could have used that area for part of his training out of the public's eye.

Went out to Lunch at Healesville on Sunday - oh how hard it is when you are presented with a smorgasboard of rich food in an atmosphere I love. The Seafood Buffet and Carvery were ok but when I saw the Dessert Table my legs nearly buckled. I'd been to this restaurant lots of times before but this was the first time it stressed me to see all that food and have to be diligent in my choices so it sounds like the lessons are sinking in and I am finally learning a thing or two.

My little hissy fit

Well I just typed out a great post but somehow it didn't publish properly and is nowhere to be found.

Basically I've had what I call a pain of a week. I tried out a site called calorieking.com.au recommendeed by several people and I don't know if its me or what but I got annoyed at the time I had going from one page to another trying to gather calorie values and record meals and measurements that I think I'll just use it for the values and record the other in a notebook I have here. Not much different to what I do each day as it is but with calories instead of kjs.

I did learn I need to consume 1200 calories and exercise for a least half an hour each day to lose any weight which without sounding clever is something I vaguely knew anyway.

The Australian version of The Biggest Loser is driving me bonkers, I realise the are only interested in the 13 contestants left but I get up half way through each evening and never finiish watching it. No tips given to the public at all except the age old message - if you want to lose you must put in the work. I wonder who else will have paddy and storm off leaving his/her dummy on the ground.

I have been busy during the day and so many things have happened late in the afternoon I haven't managed another pump class this week so am determined to go this evening. I often try for Saturday morning but there are other commitments tommorrow which is most annoying as thats the morning I weigh myself on their scales. On a brighter note I have walked each day - mainly short 3kms but did get a long (for me ) 5km one in.

Bugger theres the phone, lets hope Blogger publishes this as I'm not to going to write it all again.

Now its cooler its more pleasant

Woke up this morning feeling a bit tight all over and then remembered I'd upped my weight yesterday at the pump class. I didn't put them up by a huge amount but seemingly enough for some of my muscles to complain.
I weighed myself while I was at the gym and I'm down a bit and like I said yesterday -'every little bit helps'. Its like saving cash for something - you start off small with cents and the balance doesn't look much but once it turns into dollars its far more impressive.

I didn't get a walk first thing this morning although it would have been the tops as it was so beautifully cool. Some commitments I have to a volunteer group I organise meant I have been out till 1pm so now I've had my salad sandwich and yogurt lunch I am about to put the walking shoes on and enjoy a lovely day. Husband has gone off to Healesville for golf the rest of the afternoon is mine, outside its overcast and theres a slight breeze and even feels chilly at times such a contrast from yesterday - just right to try and get 5kms in.

Still no rain

Haven't done much over the past 2 weeks so this will be a quick conversation. Have been involved with other things - Husband had a day trip to the hospital (he's fine now) and unfortunately I had to see a Cardiologist and have an Echocardiogram.

Following on from my problems of last year, my GP wondered if the tiredness and lack of energy may be something more sinister so when a routine ecg showed something it was off to the specialist for me. We have a family history of heart disease and the trying to lose weight and fitness regime is supposed to ward off any early changes so all sorts of nasty thoughts were going round in my head and it has a been a bit of a stresfull time.

The run on the treadmill at Eastern Heart was interesting - first an ultrasound on the heart and then this walk which wasn't too bad to begin with. All hooked up to wires that were attached to an ecg machine and BP machine it started at a slow pace on level surface, then this very nice man upped the incline and the pace, nothing I couldn't cope with till the incline looked and felt like I was trying to walk up the side of Mt. Dandenong. :(

Then the machine stoppped suddenly and they did another ultrasound of the heart to see how it copes under stress. Honestly it was pumping so lound and fast I thought it would burst. Have to see the Cardio fellow again some time but the technician didn't seemed concerned.

I don't know if he was trying to prove something (thats what I thought in my pounding mind at the time ) but he said most people got as far as level 7 but I went to level 9 !! All I thought was thank goodness I was reasonably fit and used to walking some hills as it would be a killer for anyone with a heart problem.

Yes it still hasn't rained here in Melbourne but they say a little drop may appear this evening - believe that when I see it!! Watering is a fun time and so is carrying the bucket from the shower along the hallway to the front door. I'm sure it will all come good in the end but it's certainly a trying time.

I did manage a couple of trips to the gym once it went back onto regular hours and classes and walked several days but seemed to have spent a lot of the time clearing out cupboards in various rooms. Its a mystery how we manage to accumulate so much 'stuff' even tho we have regular clear outs?? So after offering bits and pieces to friends I gave the rest to the local op shop. They say what comes around goes around so I am helping to keep that saying going (in the nicest way) - if you follow my meaning.

Going to be hot again today - 38c - our new airconditioning has been well and truly tested since it was installed. I keep wondering whether to have the old one taken out of the wall but then think we may get hot humid summers where that is of more use than the evaporative one so I think it will stay there for a while. I have been out for a half hour walk already and plan to attack the linen press once my breakfast has gone down.

I started writing this first thing this morning - the day came and the day went and now its nearly bedtime. Spent a very hot day clearing out some more cupboards and I went to a 5.15pm pump class so I did achieve something. Weighed myself there and I have dropped a little bit and as we all know every little bit counts doesn't it :))
