Welcome relief

Just a little sight I saw last weekend
that made me smile

Going into the Leisure Centre I noticed this bench
right next to the bike rack

Maybe the cyclists need a little sit down
before they go inside to do even more exercise lol

Coming out later on what do I see
but another one near the car park
and across the way
from the tennis courts
where the Saturday morning Junior lessons
were about to start

This one is close to the set down / pick up zone
so would be a place to wait
but I smiled and thought
maybe some of the folk coming out
had worked so hard they were feeling exhausted
and needed a little sit down
before they ventured on to the road
to drive home lol

I'm still here

Life is busy - Dh is getting better and better - Life is good - I'll be back sometime soon

BTW he thinks this joke is funny - not quite sure what I think.

THE SENSITIVE MAN

THE ROOM WAS FULL OF PREGNANT WOMEN WITH THEIR PARTNERS.

THE CLASS WAS IN FULL SWING.

THE INSTRUCTOR WAS TEACHING THE WOMEN HOW TO BREATHE PROPERLY AND WAS TELLING THE MEN HOW TO GIVE THE NECESSARY ASSURANCE TO THEIR PARTNERS AT THIS STAGE OF THE PREGNANCY.

SHE SAID "LADIES, REMEMBER THAT EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR YOU.

WALKING IS ESPECIALLY BENEFICIAL.

IT STRENGTHENS THE PELVIC MUSCLES AND WILL MAKE DELIVERY THAT MUCH EASIER!"

SHE LOOKED AT THE MEN IN THE ROOM, "AND GENTLEMEN, REMEMBER -- YOU'RE IN THIS TOGETHER --- IT WOULDN'T HURT YOU TO GO WALKING WITH HER."

THE ROOM SUDDENLY GOT VERY QUIET AS THE MEN ABSORBED THIS INFORMATION.

THEN A MAN AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM SLOWLY RAISED HIS HAND.

"YES?" ANSWERED THE TEACHER.

"I WAS JUST WONDERING.

IS IT ALL RIGHT IF SHE CARRIES A GOLF BAG WHILE WE WALK?"

Todays Flower

I'm always unsure about the name of this plant

Some acquaintances said it is
Saxifraga aka London Pride
then others say it is called
Crassula multicava aka Stonecrop

I'm leaning towards Crassula because of the glossy leaves
but whatever its name - it grows anywhere
and is also one of those
really easy to propagate
just break a piece off and stick in the ground
type of plants

Heres the patch down near the cat pen
covering the ground fabulously
and green the whole year round

click any of the photos for a closer view
I took these photos the other day
You can see the tiny little flowers buds
on the tips of the long thin stems

In a few weeks they will open out
and from a distance
the whole of this area
will look like its covered with pink fluff

These are from early spring (October) last year

While I'm away

The cat will play!
Not likely where Kiera is concerned

I was going out for a while the other day
so for safety popped her in the pen
then shut the door
As it was a rather cool (read cold) day
I nipped back down to turn on the electric blanket
and this is what I found

Now tell me she's upset at being penned lol
Almost off to the land of nod before I drove off

When I got home I went back down to let her out
Sound asleep!
She didn't even stir when I spoke to her
The big cardboard box is where she sleeps
when its a bit windy
She and Leroy would cuddle up together
nice and warm
(leccy blanket in there as well)
and stay there even when the door had been opened

Bye for now

Maxine revisited

I'm sure I've told you this before - I love Maxine and have blogged  about her before.  Yes she can be direct, but there something about her nature I enjoy.  Maybe I'm getting that way myself but then I tend to think there's a little of Maxine inside of all of us just waiting to escape lol

Anyway imagine my smile when I visited Brenda at Rinkley Rimes and read her post for today (Saturday).  Brenda's is a blog that never fails to make me think - it is all sorts of things, it is amusing, it is interesting, thought provoking, whatever you want it to be, whenever you read her blog you will always come away realising that Brenda is one clever talented lady who definitely has a way with words.

Oh yes nearly forgot, today she is talking about Maxine and how she envisages her 'strutting' - now could you ever see Maxine strutting??

Reflecting on age maybe

Or one of her favourites - Men

Anyway I was out in the garage yesterday loooking for these - the old Heavy Hands and weights we both used to carry while walking many years ago.  Living in a very flat area at that time they were ideal for putting a bit more puff into the walk

Now he's feeling a great deal better I thought he could use them (1lb weights only) sitting in his chair. I suggested he do a few bicep curls or arm raises now and again - would get a little tone/strength back in his arms and open up his chest a bit.  Only a suggestion lol

You'd never guess what else I found while I was out in the garage - an old yoga mat.  A bit tattered and torn, it looks like one of the cats has clawed into the foam where it had protruded form the cover and hacked bits out of the sides.  Not sure I'd be able to manage even one of the easier poses but then they say practise makes perfect and I know for sure there are enough books on the bookshelf to remind me of all the wheres and whyfores - or is it whys and wherefores lol

So how about another funny from Maxine - this time reflecting on Yoga.

I'm not saying a word - maybe just agreeing with her lol

This may be of interest to many

Especially those of you
who have a special relationship

With your computer lol

Read and Weep
because it may well be true:))

But most of all

Enjoy!!

Apology

Hello there everyone
Earlier today I posted a 'funny' about the Nigerian Football Team's goalkeeper
After a couple of blog comments and also after having a couple of friends ring me about it I have decided to delete the post.
Yes it was a funny - taking a punt at that Nigerian Bank Hoax that was doing the rounds for a while - which I'm sure many of us were all unfortunate enough to have arrive in our inboxes or even as we did in our snail mail post boxes
Which was exactly the way this was forwarded to us - via our inbox
Thinking about it I did wonder if anyone would be taken in by it - so as I say, made the decision to delete
******************************************************
On a better note
My dh is much much better.  Fever has gone, he's steady on his feet, his mind is much clearer and he's starting to eat.
The abdomen ultrasound showed everything was normal.
Not a thing wrong with his liver. gallbladder, spleen or pancreas but after having several sets of blood tests repeated several times one 'part' of the Liver Function Test is still returning abnormal.
So if the most recent set - taken yesterday - are still raised he will be seeing a Hepatologist (Liver Specialist) - so fingers crossed again.
His GP 'thinks' its possible it could be his cholesterol medication (Lipitor) that is to blame.
So with all that in mind its also possible we may have to cancel our overseas trip - we are supposed to fly out 5 weeks today (August 19th)
Take care
Cathy

Kiera's take on life - Camera Critters

Having said 'Goodbye'
and watch my dearest friend Leroy
pass over the Rainbow Bridge last May
it means I'm the only feline in the house now
and THAT means
I should be allowed to take a few liberties!!

Like sitting on the big bed whenever I please
but
NO
I was told to get off of here
because 'she' was coming back to make it

Doesn't she know how beautiful I look
and this unmade bed is so inviting
I do wish she'd hurry up
my eyes are starting to droop
And - Mmmm - this side of the bed
is really soft and comfortable

Yes - I hear you
You're coming back so I need to get off
But this is so delicious
I could stay here all day
What do you mean?
What am I doing?

I heard the phone ring
I knew you'd be a while
so I decided to take a bath

Won't be long - nearly finished
I'll be off in minute!

Does anyone remember the time
Leroy and Kiera spent on the computer desk
See here in March

I'm wondering if this is what she was up to lol

Where you live where you live

As many of you know we live east of Melbourne
close to our beautiful Dandenong Ranges
and just down the road from the Yarra Valley
in the aptly called Shire of Yarra Ranges

When we first moved here many years ago
we were able to see the outline of the hills from the back garden

Of course over time things in suburbia change
6 foot fences are changed for taller ones
Evergreen and deciduous trees are planted
Trees grow so the view becomes very different
Some of the older single story weatherboard houses
have been demolished
Taller structures are appearing all over the place
The whole outlook from our house has changed completely

It is only at this time of the year
when next door's old oak tree has lost its leaves
I can actually see the TV masts on the hills

This is the view from my laundry window
If you look above the tin roof of our old garage
You'll see I've made a little white mark on the hills
just about where those masts are

I've cropped this one
and if you look carefully
you'll see
I'm not telling whoppers lol
I can also see them if I stand on tippytoes
near the drainpipe
right at the end of the garage
but only there
because if I stand anywhere else on that line
the tree trunks get in the way:((

Also has to be on my toes because I'm short
and next doors shed cuts into the view lol

So for a short while in the winter when that tree is bare
I am reminded of where we actually live
and why I don't mind looking out
over the top of a tin roof
and through a tree with no leaves

Is there anything you can see one season
but not another?

It was about this time in July 1960
I first met my dear sweet one - my Dh
He was the grand old age of 21 and I was 17

He was stationed at Nicosia in Cyprus with the RAF
and I was there because my father
was also a serving member of the RAF

Anyway for all those single young men so far from home
young single girls were hotly sought after
and he found me lol

This was taken not long after we met
and is one of my favourite photos of the two of us
That is apart from 'The Wedding Ones'
but we'll have to wait till April next year for those

He introduced me to many things
and we also shared a love of many things
Music being one of them
He loved the sound of music
particularly that of jazz
Not just the traditional jazz style but modern as well

These were some of his favourite singers of that time

click on the links
This one tells you all about them
Whereas you can revel in the sound of their music with this one

There is one singer and a song
that we've always called 'our own'

Here's the singer
and the song is
'The 12th of Never'
Never have guessed would you lol

Here are 2 versions
To get the benefit you must let them load first
then listen the second time

My sweet one hasn't been too well this past week
Blood tests returned with all sort of weird results
particularly the Liver Function Test
so as well as having more blood taken today
he also had an ultrasound of his abdomen

Fingers crossed
it was just a virus that stuffed them all up!!

Viburnum tinus - Todays Flowers

There are some shrubs that grow nice and bushy
and reasonably tall in height
so serve a purpose as a screening plant

At least thats what I envisaged a few years ago
when I planted something
down at the bottom of the garden
near the old cat pen

Thought it would grow fairly high with a bit of width
and would provide a bit of shade to one side of the pen
for anyone in there during the summer time
Also act as a wind break in the winter

This pen has been used for those times when we've gone out
and didn't want to leave the cats out
but needed to know they were secure
No one ever lived in it permanently

Well I think I got given the runt (sorry) of the cuttings
as you can see from this photo
the one thats growing there hasn't even reached the open mesh

please click on the pictures to enlarge

Its a spot that gets the winter sun
so there are lots of weird and wonderful things
growing down there
I thought this would make that area
look less utilitarian in the summer when nothing was blooming

With it being a winter flowering shrub
now is the time when its covered in clusters of little dark pink buds
which then open out into tiny pale pink flowers

The clusters don't all appear at the same time
There are some with the flowers already open
and there are some more new ones
appearing at the top of the bush

Look at the lovely dark buds

They gradually become lighter before opening

I've become used to seeing this little shrub down there
and am not too fussed if it doesn't grow its full height

And I've noticed the sun is higher in the summer
so doesn't really shine in there
also because the sun is lower in the winter
anyone spending time in there during those months
has reaped the benefit of the sunshine

They aren't going to complain - sunshine equals warmth
We all know cats love warmth and sunshine
Well mine do lol
